The year was 1961. It was roughly a year after when in July 21, 1960, pursuant to the Executive Order No. 401 signed by then President Carlos P. Garcia, the town of Polo was divided and the new municipality of Valenzuela was created. This comprised the ten towns that were excluded from the old town of Polo: Karuhatan, Marulas, Malinta, Torres Bugallon (now Gen. T. de Leon), Ugong, Mapulang Lupa, Paso de Blas, Maysan, Canumay and Bagbaguin. The years were very uncertain. The old church of San Diego de Alcala in Polo was too far for the people of Valenzuela. It was the time when they, longing for the love of the Lord, need a church that can be called their own. Thus, the second parish in Valenzuela was born on March 7 of the same year and was dedicated under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima.
Today, as an ecclesial community, the Parish has truly come a very long way and is further continuously entrusted the growth of evangelization in the City. The 17 years of faith and hope in building the structure became a fulfillment that has been serving as an endless source of inspiration for the faithful. The Parish which houses the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima has been a haven in the vale of human travails and an oasis amidst dehumanizing aridness of man’s designs and needs. It has become a living testimony of the people’s ever increasing devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and echoes until now the inner desire of the faithful to be united to Christ through the Blessed Virgin.
50 years of grace. 50 years of gratitude. 50 years of generosity with the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Golden Year of the establishment of the Parish is a special time for the community to give thanks to God Almighty and Our Lady of Fatima for the bountiful graces that it has received for the past years. It’s also an exceptional opportunity to show appreciation for the lay members of the community who have been serving the Parish since its early years and for the present generation who will hand the tradition of faith and Marian devotion to the future.
